June/July 2025 Update

Everyone is getting tired of the sustained low level of building work, even as it fades with the arrival of interior workmen.  Machinery is replace by loud sanders (I hope they wear ear protection).

There are at least three houses for sale at the bottom of Tawhai Street. What took people so long to realise this was coming? I have known since February 2022.

Weather permitting we are all hoping the scaffolding will be gone by mid-July. It would be earlier but the weather was so wet I would not have let anyone onto the scaffolding and the Site Manager has kept her workmen off the outside.  We have garden work to do over winter and will not be able to wait much longer so we hope.

The scaffolding is an eyesore from our side of the fence but the scaffolders have done a excellent job keeping their support clear of the trees on our side which is good of them.

In May we had people working on the single window (left in most of the photos). All of the pipes sticking out of the first floor above the bathroom (I think) have now been connected and we still have clear windows giving us a view into two of the row's windows.

If this is not a bathroom then we will have another fight on our hands because we have another clear window looking down on our property.

The trees (furthest from the camera) are growing but, of course, they are not growing fast enough. I should sue for larger trees I think!

Leaving the best until last

Easter Monday, which people in New Zealand is a public holiday, found builders on the site at Tawhai street with their radio going full blast.

Wow

A complaint was made and a fine levied on Friday Homes (I hope for their stupidity in trying it on with a local community knows for ripping their throats out if they overstep the mark.) We do not take abuse 'lying down' and Friday Homes should know this by now.

This is the view from our kitchen and living room windows. I assume the people living there will not mind being looked at much when we are in the kitchen...

That left us with Julys latest update

A walk around the other side of the 'development' indicates just how high the ground level was raised by the workmen before building even started (see earlier blog posts for reports on noise levels). The bottom of the window is approximately my height (5 feet-ish)) from the ground. The builders have since created wooden balconies outside these windows.

To be honest it does not look very nice at all.

Finally, builders thoughtfulness.

Lights were left on in the properties on the other side of the fence. All night. No warning, just plain rude.

Nice.
