The View from Tawhai Street
Out of curiosity I went from Glen Road to Tawhai Street to see how things looked for residents there.
It looks like organised chaos. Frameworks have gone up so all you see are uprights and diagonals! From slightly further away you can see it begin to make sense!
The fanciful artists impression doesn't give you the idea of how close the houses are to each other, although there is meant to be landscaping. It looks cramped.
If this is the same as Glen Road I don't think the plantings will be very old but fingers crossed the developers, who have been pretty perceptive so far with their tree and foliage treatment (except the destruction of three 20 year old fruit trees that didn't seem to matter). So, we can hope for real trees mayb two or three years old.
It is hard to feel the impact of the three storeys as the road is quite broad but the folks on the other side may not have half the problems we will. The only issue might be the large number of cars the residents at the new homes might have.
Below is the entrance to the very limited number of car parks on site, although the plans indicate at least one of these is a disabled parking space which is great if their disability does not include climbing stairs.
Safety at the far Side of the 'Community'
I still remain concerned about the safety of their 'social and storage area' where bike racks, lights and seating will be. I worry that it will not be long before people attempt to cross the stream and younger people might drown. Light pollution is also an issue but Hutt Council and the community don't seem to worry about that overmuch.
