Going Too Far

On 23rd August the contractors across the back fence went too far.

The noise was intense and loud. No warning about this level of noise was given, as they are meant to do by law - refer to this link for New Zealand's Standards for Noise on Construction sites and this quote.

If noisy work is planned, such as jack hammering, concrete cutting, and pouring, discuss this with nearby residents beforehand. A sign on site or distribution of leaflets explaining the hours and duration of operation may help prevent complaints.

No, a sign on the site is not acceptable to those across the other side of your site - a printed notice would have been. As it was, I formally approached Urban Plus (The Developers) with a protest as this went beyond construction noise.

I received a courteous response from the company and action was taken to limit the amount of intense work that day. The neighbours all appreciated that.

Friday Homes would do well to have notified those of us who were bludgeoned by the din for hours and we might have been more understanding.

The Scaffolders

After this while not tiptoeing arond the site, the amount of noise was moderated until 7th of September when Friday Homes once again surpassed themselves in a total lack fof courtesy and tact for the local Glen Road community.

The Glen Road development had the bulk of its scaffolding taken away on Saturday starting at 8 a.m.

How did I know it was 8 a.m? The scaffolders made sure we all heard their loud music ringing out above the necessary clanking of the scaffolding pipes.  Rude? Arrogant? It certainly was. There was no need to blast local residents all morning just because you feel you can. Friday Homes are the contractor, they should not have allowed this behaviour.

The Patio Doors

It seems the huge patio doors will have a newly built (but still resolutely pine looking) fence between them and next door. My concerns about privacy were somewhat mollified when the pine fencing went up a few weeks later. It doesn't make the houses look any less dull and featureless.
