Same Old Same Old
The relentless noise of diggers, lorries, drills and (a new one) a cement mixer continues.
The droning and grinding of diggers is punctuated by crashes and bangs at regular intervals. It really has become an absolute horror story (as anyone with a development over the fence or across the road, will tell you).
I am not sure how most people react to the immense level of noise on other developments but, as the weather warms up I suspect it will begin to ruin the spring and summer for many people around Tawhai Street and Glen Road. Just like the development on Glen Road itself.
Something to Amuse
If you want a laugh, do an internet search for houses at 64-66 Glen Road. You will get an idea of how almost enclosed the development looks. All they need is an iron gate to complete a real 'keep them all out' feel.
- It's a shame that the person who stuck all of the 'sold' stickers on the available properties map did not know when to stop. A lot of the properties still seem to be for sale, and if you have two cars be prepared to clutter up Glen Road, it looks like you only get one space.
If you own more than one car (and many houses here have at least three or four), you will need to park all of them out on the road. (Good luck with that as the houses are close to Tui Glen School and the intersection with Tawhai Street 😂).
The fanciful shots of the development show unconvincing AI created gardens and 'spacious' parking spots. When you see it for real the cutesy gardens look much smaller and the houses remind me of rows of dog kennels, but that's just me.
After all, who wants trees and bushes to encourage birds and wildlife. Yes, trees take time to grow and get established. No, I don't think anything shown on the visualisation will compensate for the huge number of trees and shrubs that were ddestroyed.
Taking the wider view. When you think about it, Glen Road is not on the road to anywhere, it was a quieter suburb (until now) and it takes time to get out and on to State Highway 2. There is no large supremarket (you need to go to Silversteam, New World - which is awesome). The local New World is a compact unit with necessarily limits what it can sell.
But there you go.
