Only 2 Years, Three Months and 6 Days Late

Today the little diggers finally arrived to start the first phase of the building of social housing across the back fence.

Of course we are looking forward to the noise and dirt of the next three years, just like every other home owner in the Hutt Valley struggling against similar stress. Residents it seems have little or no redress against the invasion of the builders.

The company are only two years, three months and 6 days late starting the 19 houses that will be crammed on to the relatively small site.

In theory, according to their optimistic forcast that arrived in our letter box two years ago, they were meant to have finished building by now. They haven't even started which leads me to believe that Hutt City Council may need to try a bit harder to get affordable homes built for those in desperate need.

Sadly the developments of very plain, and overpriced private houses are out of most people's income range (smallest houses start at around half a million New Zealand dollars) I am not sure who is buying them except investors using them as 'buy to rent to others' properties.
